Visitation Information

Fairmont Regional Medical Center promotes open visiting hours as a holistic approach to patient-centered care. Open visiting hours will allow family members and friends to provide the additional support necessary to enhance the health and well-being of the patient.

Visitation Policy

  • Visiting hours are open in the Medical/Surgical (3A, 3B, 4A) and Maternal/Child Health Center.
  • Visiting hours for specialty units (SCU, Emergency Department, and Behavioral Medicine units) are listed below.
  • "Family” includes anyone important to the patient.
  • Children with adult supervision are welcome in all areas except the Emergency Room and the Special Care Unit. See further restrictions under Specialty Units.
  • Visitors who have experienced a fever, cough, runny nose, sore throat, skin rash, vomiting, or diarrhea in the last 48 hours are asked to refrain from visiting.
  • Visitors are asked to walk quietly through our hallways and when visiting patients in semi-private rooms so that other patients are not disturbed.
  • Visitors will be notified that a visit may be temporarily interrupted at times so that patient care can be delivered. Visitors will be invited back to the bedside as soon as possible after the interruption and as the patient condition warrants.
  • During special situations and/or at the nurse’s or physician’s discretion, visitors/family may be asked to leave the patient care room or unit.
  • Members of the clergy are welcome to visit patients at any time to provide for their spiritual health needs.
  • Although FRMC has open visiting hours, quiet time begins at 9 p.m. Visitors are asked to please respect quiet time.
  • Visitors who stay after 9 p.m. will be asked to check in with the nursing unit to receive a visitor badge that must be worn between the hours of 9 p.m. and 7 a.m.
  • Visitors who are entering the building after 9 p.m. are asked to enter through the Emergency Room.

Specialty Units:

Emergency Department

  • The Emergency Department supports open visiting hours for their patients.
  • To respect both patients and their family members who are in the Emergency Department, the number of visitors is limited to 2 per patient.
  • For children under 12, special visiting provisions must be made with the nurse and/or physician who is caring for the patient.

Special Care Unit

  • Although the Special Care Unit supports open visiting hours for their patients, visitation may be delayed at times so that procedures may be performed and so that patients can rest.
  • For children under 12, special visiting provisions must be made with the nurse and/or physician who is caring for the patient.

Behavioral Health Units

  • Visiting hours are more restricted in the Behavioral Health areas so that patients can participate in individual and group therapy sessions as they progress through the healing process. Families are invited to participate in family therapy sessions when warranted.
  • Behavioral Medicine unit staff will review visiting hours with both patients and family members.

Maternal/Child Health Units

  • While the Maternal/Child Health unit supports open visiting hours for their patients, preparation for night time procedures and quiet time for parent and child will begin each evening at 9 p.m.
  • There are no overnight accommodations for siblings or friends who wish to stay on the unit.

The Volunteer Association operates the Gift Shop located in the main lobby on the 1st floor of Fairmont Regional Medical Center. Hours of operation for the Gift Shop are Monday through Friday 9am-4pm. The Gift Shop is closed Saturday and Sunday.
